Our Christmas party - November 2008

This years Christmas party, the first for more than five years, was well organised by the Committee, led by Nkechi Mgbo. The turn out was just right. The venue was accessible. There were more than enough food and drinks. The music by IK Okolo, was just out of the world. The young ones were pretty impressive with their impromto display and the oldies held up their part of the bargain. All and all, the day was a success.
We have to now analyse it to see how it can be better for next time, e.g. looking for a system of serving drinks so that there is minimal waste of our money

Party day - 22nd November 2008

Today is the party day and l hope everyone will chill and enjoy themselves. I certainly will. Those who for whatever reasons cannot make it (everyone should endeavour to), will have the opportunity of seeing some of the pictures once the party is over. Hopefully, l will take enough to make it worth yourwhile.
The party is taking place at Wally Foster Centre, Homerton High Road, Hackney, London. Everyone is expected to be there by 7pm to set things up.

We are also expected to vacate the premises by 2am, so can everybody help with the clearing of the hall when the time comes. We stand to forfeit £500 deposite if we stay late or do not clean the place.

Happy Christmas and enjoy yourselves!!!!

Outcome of meeting held on 24th August 2008

CHRISTMAS PARTY - The few members who attended agreed to have a Christmas party this year since we hadn't had one for more than four years. The planned date if all goes well is the 29th of November 2008. This is to allow everyone who may be travelling home or wherever to attend.

If you can recommend a nice venue which will not exceed £700, then let the Social and Welfare Officers know.
It is hoped that our young ones will input in many ways. Some people suggested giving recitals, fashion shows and whatever they can come up with, just as a way of keeping them interested

ELECTION: The 3 yearly election for new Officers will be on our next meeting in November and the tentative date (not confirmed yet) is 15th November. It is important for everyone to attend and make your views known.

My only other comment is that for us to go from strength to strenght, we need to continue to have people who are committed and who are ready to progress us in a way that will keep the current membership but even more importantly, attract more people especially our young ones. This is no mean fit.

We have to be seen as forward thinking and moving with the times if our young ones are to take us seriously. If our intension is to stick with the status quo and just come, enjoy ourselves and go home, then that is ok. So give a thought to this.
Apart from these nothing much happened except of course eating and drinking. 14 members turned up that is minus all the children. It was nice to see everyone.

IGWANSHI

I just came back from Nigeria where l spent almost all of my two weeks stay, in Eke. Quite honestly, my visit was so enjoyable. There were so many new impressive houses built and being built in Eke and the whole place was buzzing with the Igwnshi festival. There are definitely signs of progress both at Eke and Enugu. However, there is still much suffering.
The Igwanshi festival which l enjoyed as a young woman, was played out during my stay. That was a magical experience, watching young people dancing as some of us did and making up songs. I just joined in the whole thing with abandonment. Our children should behold it if we can. This is a positive aspect of our culture.
